Strong Performances and Tournament Highlights
CBA's dominance in the tournament was evident, as the Colts claimed six individual titles. Sean Kenny (106), Paul Kenny (120), Robert Duffy (132), William Sakoutis (144), James Jakub (150), and Brendan Boyer (157) all captured regional crowns. Their performances set the tone for what will likely be a strong showing at the state tournament.
Brick Memorial also had a solid showing, with Harvey Ludington (190) and Ben Szuba (Hwt) leading the way for the Mustangs. Szuba’s commanding technical fall in the heavyweight final demonstrated his strength heading into the next stage of competition.
Jackson Liberty’s Armani McCann delivered an impressive performance at 138, taking down Dom Volek of Ocean Township 11-5 to claim the title. Meanwhile, Point Boro’s Joseph DeAngelo showcased his skills at 126 with an 8-2 victory over Tucker Pazinko.
Among the other key matchups, CBA’s AJ Falcone secured the win against Jake Clayton of Point Boro in a thrilling 165-pound final that required tiebreaker periods to decide the winner.
Josiah Sweeney’s Tournament Run
Freehold Boro’s Josiah Sweeney battled his way through the tournament, securing a semifinal appearance at 106 pounds. Though he ultimately fell to Santino DiMatteo (Brick Memorial) in a close 4-1 decision, Sweeney rebounded in wrestlebacks, picking up a solid major decision over Shea Tracey (Manasquan).
Looking Ahead
With the regionals concluded, the focus now shifts to the state tournament in Atlantic City, where these wrestlers will look to cap off their seasons with strong performances on the biggest stage. CBA’s depth and talent make them a team to watch, but wrestlers from programs like Brick Memorial, Jackson Liberty, and Point Boro have proven they can compete at the highest level.
