Crusaders Dominate Middle and Lower Weights to Secure Statement Victory

Bergen Catholic put together a dominant performance against Don Bosco Prep, earning a 50-14 victory in a highly anticipated matchup between two state powers. After a tightly contested opening bout, the Crusaders took control through the middle weights and never looked back.

The dual began at 132 pounds, where Andrew Bonita secured a 3-2 tiebreaker win for Don Bosco Prep over Lucas Reeves, giving the Ironmen an early lead. Bergen Catholic answered immediately at 138, as Elijah Winn earned a 7-1 decision to even the team score.

Middle Weights Spark Major Run

From 144 through 165, Bergen Catholic seized full control of the dual.

Sowzrawca Tsay delivered a 19-2 technical fall at 144, followed by Philip Gianatasio’s pin in 3:17 at 150. Joey Canova added another fall at 157 in just 1:13, energizing the Crusaders’ bench.

Manny Gusfa extended the surge at 165 with an 18-3 technical fall, pushing Bergen Catholic’s lead to 25-3.

Don Bosco Prep responded with back-to-back major decisions. Santino Rodriguez earned a 15-4 win at 175, and Nevin Mattessich followed with an 8-0 major decision at 190. Dante DeLuca added a decision at 215, trimming the deficit to 25-14.

Bergen Catholic Closes Strong

Bergen Catholic regained momentum at heavyweight, where Ralphie Barca picked up a forfeit victory.

The lower weights sealed the dual in decisive fashion. Chase Young secured a fall in 54 seconds at 106, and Anthony Riotto followed with a 19-4 technical fall at 113.

Micah Loudermilk earned a 9-3 decision at 120, and Matthew Mulligan closed out the match with a 21-5 technical fall at 126, putting the finishing touches on the 50-14 team victory.

With bonus points across the lineup and a dominant stretch through the middle and lower weights, Bergen Catholic delivered a strong statement performance in this rivalry matchup.
